Location: Given the nature of the work performed, the Copywriter intern may telecommute (work from home) or may work from one of the following offices: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Boca Raton, FL. If the Web Copywriter Intern is to telecommute rather than work from one of our South Florida offices, the Web Copywriter Intern will be required to use a dashboard system for communicating with other interns and associate employees. The dashboard system is similar to blackboard.com software.
Compensation: $1,000 stipend intended for reimbursement of reasonable expenses. Copy of MS Word 2007 for PC or 2008 for Mac.
Preferred Majors: English, Creative Writing, Communications, Journalism, Information System Management, Management Information Systems
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Educate Web Copywriter Intern as to the practical requirements of a career in journalism and copywriting for the web.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Copywriter Intern will be required to post short comments on blogs and other websites that are thoughtfully written and pertain to our clients. We would prefer a student with a strong background in writing and journalism rather than a student with computer knowledge for the purposes of this web copywriting internship.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP:
The program is designed to supplement academic course studies and theory with practical work and assignments. In this, our current clients have allowed us to use their websites as part of the internship program for writing copy in order to gain “real world” experience. Students can then use the campaigns and websites they work on in their portfolios and resumes. Working on an internship basis allows the students to work freely on actual client campaigns without the typical stress and deadlines of actual client work.
Based on the interns’ academic level and experience, the interns will be placed in either of the following groups:
Advanced: The intern will be provided with specific subjects to write about such as office furniture, plastic surgery, an area of law, etc.. Because the intern will be writing for the web, the intern will need to incorporate certain keywords into the copy while confirming to basic literary rules. The assignments will be graded based on the amount of times keywords are used, how creatively they are used, and how well the copy reads altogether.
Beginner: The intern will be provided with pre-existing copy. Because the intern will be writing for the web, the intern will need to incorporate certain keywords into the copy while confirming to basic literary rules. These assignments will be graded based only on the amount of times the keywords are used.
The immediate supervisor of the team will be a student who successfully completed the internship within the past semester and was hired.
Requirements:
Student must have already completed core requisites for degree sought or MUST have outside equivalent experience. For example, when applying for a copywriter internship, the student must be familiar with proofreading in MS Word, at a very minimum.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Must be extremely proficient in English and MLA and APA writing styles. If attending a public University in Florida, Web Copywriter Intern must have previously met the Gordon rule-writing requirement.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Student should currently be actively enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
