What happened to hibernation in Vista?
if you want to turn the hibernation in Vista back on, simply do the following:
1. Click Start, All Programs, and then right click on "Command Prompt".
2. From the context menu click on "Run as administrator".*
3. If User Account Control prompts you to allow the action, click on Continue.
4. In the command prompt window, type "powercfg /hibernate on" followed by Enter button.*
4. Close the Command Prompt window and you're done
*If you can't run the command prompt as an administrator just hit Ctrl+Shift+Enter instead of Enter above.
*If the / doesn't work, try to use a - instead.
If this still doesn't work or works at first but then it disappears again it probably means you're using a laptop and you're hybrid sleep option is turned on. You'll have to change hybrid sleep to Off in order for hibernation to work. Hibernation and Hybrid sleep are mutually exclusive, whereas Hybrid sleep is a combination of Suspend/Standby and Hibernation.
